🎶 From Jamaica to Vegas: The Inspiring Journey of Stan Rankin T
When you think of reggae music in Las Vegas, one name stands out — Stan Rankin T. Born Stanley Tyrell in Portland, Jamaica, Stan’s musical journey is a testament to culture, resilience, and passion. His roots run deep in Jamaican traditions, having grown up surrounded by the vibrant rhythms of Quadrille music and the spiritual guidance of Rastafarian culture.
At just 17, Stan moved to Kingston, the heart of reggae, where his talents blossomed. Teaming up with his cousin Mas Man Tyrell, he performed for King Edward The Giant, a revered figure in Jamaica’s sound system culture. During this time, Stan brushed shoulders with legends — including the great Bob Marley, who personally helped him refine his guitar playing.
In 1981, Stan visited Las Vegas for a radio interview on KCEP, discussing reggae music and the I-Zits band. Captivated by the city's growing appreciation for Caribbean culture, he made the move permanent in 1982. Since then, he has left an unforgettable mark on the Las Vegas music scene.
Stan became a familiar voice on KUNV 91.5 FM, where he has hosted a weekly reggae radio show that continues to bring island vibes to the desert airwaves. His dedication to promoting Caribbean culture led him to open Caribbean Lifestyles, a one-of-a-kind store that offered reggae, soca, and African music, as well as traditional clothing and handcrafted goods. For over 27 years, the shop stood as a cultural beacon until it closed, a casualty of the digital music revolution.
But Stan didn’t stop there.
He founded the reggae band Meshack and has continued to perform live across Las Vegas casinos and Los Angeles clubs, sharing his authentic sound with new generations. In 2021, he released two heartfelt albums — "Follow Him" and "Look to the East" — proving that his message and music remain timeless.
Today, Stan Rankin T is more than a reggae artist — he’s a cultural ambassador, educator, and storyteller whose voice continues to echo the spirit of the islands in every beat.
